Pardon me if I haven't done any visiting and commenting your blogs for a few days now. I'm not harried nor hurried because I stay at home most of the time. But what occupies me most since last week is the administration of my IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) treatments and medications.
You see, I'm trying to conceive a child. I married late --at age 36. My husband and I tried to conceive for about 3 1/2 years in the natural way as much as possible but I was beginning to be concerned with my age if I would wait for a little bit longer. So, I prayed and sought for God's answer. He responded by telling me to go to a fertility specialist. So early this year, we went to the specialists at Yale Fertility Center who had put me through a series of tests before the treatment.
I'm very glad I'm here in America to have this opportunity. In my tiny country, treatments for fertility are way too expensive. Most insurance companies do not cover it and even if it does, it would only be available for people who can afford insurance, which is of course the rich ones. However, only a few of my countrymen can obtain insurance even for simple medical procedures or treatments. Health insurance in my beloved nation is not as good as in the U.S. Although U.S. health insurance policies are not as outstanding and have been constantly criticized, great health insurance companies exist here like we do have.
When I asked God for this treatment, I also requested that our insurance would cover all the costs. Indeed, God is so great. When He does give gifts, it's all the way like "eveything comes with it."
For about 6 months now, I'd been patiently waiting for every test to be through and over---and most of all, normally fine. The tests I had undergone were mostly blood tests, sugar level tests and tests to determine the condition of my reproductive organs. These are done so, to ensure the medicines they will give me are not going to be rejected by my body. Through these tests, I found out that one of my fallopian tubes is blocked and thus no natural fertilization occurs.
Now all my tests are finished. I began my treatments last Friday, which I do all at home. For 11 days, I am taking the following,
1) .2cc of Lupron minidose to be injected on my thighs
2) 150 iu of Gonal F or Follistim to be injected in my lower abdomen
3) 1 capsule of Doxycycline
These are to be taken twice daily. Timing is crucial ---it has to be consistently 12 hours apart. These medicines aim to multiply 3 to 5 times the amount of eggs being ovulated. My husband is also taking Doxycycline two times a day.
After 11 days, I am going to inject myself with Ovidrel for 2 1/2 days to induce follicular maturation in the eggs. Thereafter, the retrieval of the eggs and the sperm will take place in the lab. During this stage, I have to take another medication called Medrol on the day of retrieval and 3 days after the retrieval. The eggs will be fertilized under control in the lab for 3 to 5 days. Only the good eggs are to be poured in a tube to be fertilized.
Once after being fertilized in the lab, the oocytes (eggs) are ready to be transferred to my uterus. Within 2 weeks, the fertility practitioners will determine pregnancy.
These fertility procedures are very expensive ranging from $15,000 to $20,000 minus the medicines. However, my medicines are also covered by my insurance. We paid a little bit more than $200 for about almost a thousand bucks cost of medicines.
I'm pretty excited about getting pregnant. Although I feel a little ambivalent of this whole thing, I know that God has always been good to me and will always be with me. Friends and readers, I am asking a favor that if you could pray for me for the safety and success of the treatment and oncoming pregnancy, I will be very grateful. Your prayers are what need the most this time. God bless you much.

Bing, I know God has plans for you and for your hubby. He already gave you the sign so...just be patient and follow all the directions by the book. My Belgian friend has the same situation as you and she and her husband were blessed with a child last year. Now, they are trying for a second baby but she's not waiting for her hubby to help her with injections, she did it by herself this time as hubby always come home late from work. Take care! God is great, indeed!

Hi Bingkee,
Let me share my prayers for you that God bless you with the offspring that you have long sought for. I pray to God that He finally accede to your request. God is good and He will surely grant us our request. Nothing is impossible with God. Good as the facilities of the US to help you have a baby, God alone can finally make it happen. May the Lord grant your most fervent wish and may He use the child mightily for the cause of His kingdom. Thank you so much for your post. God bless you and your loved ones always my friend.

Hi Bingkee. I am working on an article I'm writing...The theme is, "In the Beginning was the Word." The article is centered around the thoughts of people in God's mind before he laid the foundations of the earth. God had the idea of you and had the idea of your future child...and that just blows my mind!! Anyway, Praying for you and your husband:)

How exciting! I'm so glad your insurance covers this expensive procedure - mine only covered diagnosis, no treatments at all. I'm praying that you don't have too many side effects from all the medicines and that you do get pregnant and stay pregnant from this round of IVF. Know that I'm in your corner cheering you on and look forward to passing the "Preggie Lady" title onto you.

i remember when i got married at the age of 24 and after two months of not getting pregnant, i got alarmed and asked for tips. everybody was very willing to share their knowledge on the whats and hows. and after that month, i discovered i was already having a baby. it is really an exciting feeling. having your first baby will always be that exciting, i guess. it helps reading books, too, about pregnancy tips and how you'd prepare yourself for the coming preggy months specially the firs trimester.
my prayers for you and for your baby. :-)

I will keep you in my prays that everything is succesful. I can imagine the struggle behind the scenes you must be going through. Someone who used to work for me went through IVF at UConn Medical at I couldn't imagine how many appointments and how time consuming the process is. Anyway, I will pray for the best for the two of you : )
